Birth Certificate New York

Getting a birth certificate in New York is a lot easier than you might think. You just have to do a lot of work as far as gathering the details that you need, getting the check or money order, and following through with the processes and steps that are required to get a birth certificate copy sent to you. Every state has basically the same rules and procedures. It’s not hard at all, and you’ll have an easy time with it as long as you can come up with a minor fee and mail a letter. Anyone can do that.

You can order a certified birth certificate copy straight from the New York Department of Health Vital Records. There are a couple kinds of service offered.

There is priority handling for an additional charge. Requests given for priority handling usually necessitate up to two to four weeks to process from the time that they are received at the office. This is pretty standard across all the states. It’s advisable to submit the request by overnight delivery. Completed requests will be sent back to the sender by first class unless you provide a return mailer that’s prepaid for delivery overnight that goes with the request.

Regular handling is also available. They will be processed in ten to 12 weeks from the time they come in.

Without any priority handling, the fee is just $30. With priority handling, the fee is $45. You need to enclose a money order or check that’s paid out to the New York State Department of Health. Payment sent in from countries outside the United States have to be made with a check that’s drawn from a United States bank or either with an international money order. Do not mail cash in the mail.

Some birth certificate certified copies are not available from the New York State Department of Health. For requests for New York City birth certificates, you need to go to the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

You have to have some identification requirements with your requests. The application has to be submitted with either a driver’s license, state-issued photo ID card, passport, or photo ID card issued by the U.S. military, or you need to bring two of the following items. You need to bring telephone or utility bills and a government agency letter with a date that’s in the previous six months.

If you don’t provide the necessary identification, then your application will be rejected. You can print the forms out from the site.

If you want, they can also mail a hardcopy of the form to you. The application form is online though. It’s easy to just print it from the website.

If you live in New York, you will have to use one website to process your request. If you live in New York City, you will have to use another website to process your request. It’s kind of a weird set-up.
