How do you get your birth certificate in Illinois? Well, it’s easier than you might think. All you have to do is follow the instructions on the Illinois government division website. Let’s take a look at it.

If you’re 18 or older, or a parent who’s on the birth certificate, can get a birth certificate from the Illinois Department of Public Health. You can also go to the county clerk of the county of your birth.

You can get a birth certificate for $14 for the initial copy and $2 for each further copy of the same birth certificate that’s request at the same time. It is $10 for the initial copy and $2 for each extra copy of the identical record requested simultaneously.

Records can be purchased in person, by fax, by mail, or online.

To get it in person, the orders can be dropped for mailing out within a period of three business days at the Illinois Department of Public Health. You can go there between Monday and Friday from 10 AM to 3 PM.

If you are mailing it in, then you can send a money order or check in for the mandatory fee to the Illinois Department of Public Health. You have to include a readable copy of your valid photo ID.

You can also fax in your order. You need to include an application for search of birth files. A cover sheet has to include a credit card number and expiration date, daytime phone number, return address, written signature, and a government-issued photo ID card.

To order a birth certificate copy online, you’ll have to get a credit card for the fee and a $10 fee for handling the credit card charge. Orders can be sent through the mail, with no further cost, or through UPS the day afterward with return delivery for another charge of $19.50.

The orders usually take about a week to process. You will need an adult signature to get the UPS delivery. They can send packages through UPS to where you work. UPS deliveries can’t be made to post office boxes, however.

You can use either a Discover, American Express, MasterCard, or Visa to pay. There will be a $3 fee charged for each additional person in a group order. The service isn’t currenly open for genealogical requests. Illinois records aren’t just open to the public. You have to meet certain eligibility requirements first.
